Long Beach’s Brass Rubbing Medieval Arts Center provided CLC students with the opportunity to learn about and produce their own brass rubbing during a field trip last month.

Brass rubbing is making an impression of a church memorial brass on paper through the use of wax, which is common on the walls or floors many old English churches.

The Medieval Arts Center, open through Nov. 19 and located inside St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, has one of the most extensive collections of church memorial brass facsimiles in North America.  Students were able to choose from brasses representing religious figures and symbols, knights in armor, family life and costume design, lords and ladies, even dragons and other mythical creatures.
