The award-winning writer and editor Andrew Roe will sign his new book, “The Miracle Girl,” at 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 3, at Laguna Beach Books, 1200 S. Coast Highway.
The work is the author’s first novel about how becoming a believer in anything can become physically sustaining.
Author’s Tale Spans Dilemmas, Disasters and Decades
Laguna Beach Books welcomes author Tracy Robert to discuss her latest book, “Flashcards and the Curse of Ambrosia,” at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 7, 1200 S. Coast Highway. Admission is free.
“Flashcards” tracks the friendship between Phoebe, the studious narrator, and her rebellious friend, Dessa. The girls decode the bewildering adult world as they grow up together, but part ways after high school. “The Curse of Ambrosia” reunites the pair when they’re octogenarians.
These linked novellas span dilemmas, disasters and decades to reveal the transformational powers of friendship.
Robert, a California native, has taught writing for three decades.
Library Marks Poetry Month with a Contest
Laguna Beach Library will be accepting submissions from the public throughout April for their 18th annual Community Poetry Contest. This year’s topic is surf and sand. Entrants may submit up to three original poems.
Entries will be judged according to age divisions. Winning poems will be published in the library’s 17th Annual Poetry Booklet. All winners recognized at a public reading June 6.

Self-Help Author Throws Her Own Party
Author Debra Oakland invites the public to her 6-9 p.m. book launch Thursday, April 7, at Seven Degrees, 891 Laguna Canyon Road.
In a statement, she said she spent six years working on the self-help book, “Change Your Movie, Change Your Life: 7 Reel Concepts for Courage Change.”
