Swimm to Receive Lifetime Achievement Award

Artist Tom Swimm steps into the spotlight as recipient of the Laguna Beach Arts Alliance lifetime achievement award on April 29 at the 12th Annual Art Star Awards.

Swimm transitioned from a career as a commercial artist to an accomplished fine artist. His works are exhibited in galleries across the country and held in private and corporate collections, says a LBAA statement.

His painting methods underpin art instruction books and videos. He has also illustrated children books.

The award-winning painter is also a published playwright, actor, musician and songwriter. On original song of his is included in the archive of the 9/11 Memorial Museum.

The 30-year Festival of Arts exhibitor in Laguna Beach is past president of the San Clemente Art Association.

Art Stars Competition Opens Up

The Laguna Beach Arts Alliance is now accepting applications for a $5,000 grant to develop and present an arts project that advances recognition of Laguna Beach as a vibrant arts community.

For the first time, the contest is open to artists in Orange and Los Angeles counties and the application deadline is March 1.

The grant from the event center Seven Degrees is presented at the Art Star Awards, scheduled for Sunday, April 29. The winner will have 11 months to complete the project.
