Association With Rohrabacher Doesn’t Gain His Vote

Editor,

In a few months Mitt Romney will buy the White House with millions from many unnamed donors and corporations.

I was surprised and sad to hear Dana Rohrabacher will be representing Laguna Beach in the newly created 48th District and that he attended Laguna Beach city council candidate Steve Dicterow’s kick-off party.

Rohrabacher is considered by many to be one of the most ineffective congressmen in U.S. history. Yes, he is a surfer and republican-libertarian when it comes to his belief that states should allow medical marijuana but beyond that, he is against women’s choice, cannot travel to Afghanistan because he is a persona non grata as far as the Afghan government goes, denies that global warming is caused by humans and says previous global warming was caused by “dinosaur flatulence.” On “Real Time” with Bill Maher, Rohrabacher cited President Barack Obama’s secret determination to “gut the military.” He made this assertion despite non-partisan data indicating military spending has actually increased in each year of Obama’s presidency.

Rohrabacher’s ineffectiveness is reflected in the outcome of a amendment he tried to pass which would have prohibited federal reimbursement of hospitals providing emergency care to undocumented aliens unless the hospital provided info about the alien’s citizenship, immigration, financial status and employer to the Secretary of Homeland Security. The bill was defeated 331 – 88.

What can you do? Don’t vote for Rohrabacher the next time he runs and if the Canyon Conservancy or any group asks him to speak, don’t go, even if it’s a good dinner for a good price. As for Steve Dicterow, I’m voting for the incumbents, Jane Egly and Verna Rollinger

  1. You were too NICE in your description of Dana Rohrabacher’s lack of judgement, and more importantly,Character.

You forgot to mention why he was known as TALIBAN DAN:

“A November/December 1996 article in Washington Report on Middle East Affairs reported, “The potential rise of power of the Taliban does not alarm Rohrabacher” because the congressman believes the “Taliban could provide stability in an area where chaos was creating a real threat to the U.S.” Later in the article, Rohrabacher claimed that:
Taliban leaders are “not terrorists or revolutionaries.” Media reports documenting the Taliban’s harsh, radical beliefs were “nonsense.”

Or to mention how in June of 2011 he thought the Iraqis should pay for the privilege of our country trashing their country:

“Iraqi authorities have asked for a US congressman to leave the country after he called for Baghdad to repay part of the money spent by Washington since the 2003 invasion, a spokesman said on Saturday”

Looks like zero for two on those Middle East “theories”!

Or to mention good ol boy Danny’s fear of the “OTHER”:

“Rep. Rohrabacher Suggests White People Will ‘Lose Our Freedom’ If The DREAM Act Passes”

Other than these examples, I have nothing nice to say about Taliban Dan.

  2. Barkleyg,,,,it looks like most of your info was gleaned from Wikipedia, try clicking on a little further and doing a little more research….i’d love to debate you on the 1996 status of the Taliban and our and Rep Rohrabachers stance, but i would be engaging in a battle of wits with an unarmed person,,,,please read-up a little more on the subject and try and keep an open mind,,,i know it’s hard to do with MSNBC blaring so loudly on your 72 inch flatscreen

  3. I am an unaffiliated voter and hold both “conservative” and “liberal” views. In addition to the positions above, Rohrabacher has a record of anti-gay votes that is pretty disappointing. (Refusing to recognize gay men and women who have fought for the military? Seriously?)

When I suggested to Rohrabacher via twitter that he is out of touch with Laguna Beach voters, he responded that he had been going to Laguna Beach before I had been born. (Well, then, that settles it…?) Alienating anyone the age of 64 isn’t really a valid argument. Anyway, if you watch Rohrabacher’s online presence, he constantly engages in petty debates and responds with immature comments. Social media for the lowest common denominator. He’s not a leader; he’s a bully.

And I was disappointed when I found out Dicterow is associating himself with Rohrabacher. I appreciated Dicterow’s door-to-door ethic and will often vote for local officials with whom I disagree on national issues. Unfortunately, by choosing to align himself with Rohrabacher, Dicterow chooses to accept Rohrabacher’s baggage as well.

Very, very brave for someone residing Behind the ORANGE CURTAIN!

Remember: The JOHN BIRCH Society was founded in Orange County, and still seems to have a strong influence in our LOCAL government!
