Laguna goes for a school record 11th win this Friday, Nov. 17, at 7 p.m. at Guyer Field as the Breakers face Northwood (5-6) in the Southern Division quarterfinals. Breakers are 1-6 all-time against the Timberwolves and only have one common opponent this season. Laguna and University tied 36-36 on Sept. 7 while Northwood defeated the Trojans 42-28 on Nov. 1. Expect a high scoring shootout in this week’s contest. Should Laguna prevail, they would play either at Segerstrom or Garden Grove on Nov. 23.

Last week, the Breakers rolled Loara 42-14 as Laguna scored on their first five possessions. The game opened with Robbie McInerny kicking his 56th touchback of the season forcing the Saxons to start from the 20. Loara moved the ball 22 yards in nine plays before stalling and forced to punt with a fourth down and 11 yards to make up. The 32-yard Saxon punt sailed directly to Robert Clemons, who electrified the crowd with a 74-yard return, tied for the 10th longest in school history.

Nathan Lancaster runs for Laguna’s fifth touchdown in the first half flanked by senior offensive lineman, Joseph Casey. Lancaster is averaging a school record 14.7 yards per rush attempt this season.

Laguna’s last touchdown of the half was another punt return as Nathan Lancaster ran it back 41 yards for Laguna’s 12th kick return of the season (nine punts, two kick-offs) and the team’s 17th run back for a score (adding four interception returns and a fumble return).

Also scoring this game were Keaton Martinez on a pass from Larry Stewart, Stewart on a six-yard bootleg run and an explosive 43-yard score by Lancaster. Complete season statistics and video clips of big plays can be found on the Laguna football page at Maxpreps.com.
