Congressman Rohrabacher: Unless you make a statement in favor of banning the sale and possession of semi-automatic weaponry for which there is absolutely no practical need by any citizen in civil society, you are standing squarely in favor of additional mass shootings of innocent people, the kind of horror that no longer occurs in Australia since 2006, when a killing spree that took the lives of 35 innocent people shocked that country into enacting serious and effective national gun control legislation.
The recent spate of horrifying killings in the U.S. now offers you a perfect opportunity to update your views and support a country where the average citizen is protected from the violence of the misguided.
We both know that in opposing serious gun control legislation for years, you have been supporting weapons manufacturers, and sellers, not your constituent citizens, and citing the Second Amendment is the most flimsy and transparent of pretexts.
The massive number of highly efficient killing instruments that are awash in our society, and that have no relation to hunting or protecting one’s home and family, or target shooting, is a social ill that requires bold legislation.
Do the right thing and change your stance on this issue now.
