Ground Crews Prepare for the Opening Bell
Each summer, the school district’s facilities crew shifts into high gear working on preventative maintenance, taking advantage of the period when students are absent to avoid disrupting instruction with construction projects.
Every heating and air conditioning unit and irrigation line is inspected and repaired as needed, electrical components are inspected and inefficient lighting replaced. The custodial staff will also undergo training on eco-friendly cleaning methods, according to a district statement.
It’s part of the district’s commitment to keep up facilities refurbished through a voter-passed bond measure in 2001, said Norma Shelton, assistant business services superintendent.
“The health and safety of students is our top priority. Our maintenance and operations staff takes pride in providing clean, well-maintained schools for our students to attend,” Superintendent Sherine Smith said in a statement.
