The high school’s performing arts department presents a variety of dance, choral, and instrumental music concerts in the next two weeks at the Artists’ Theatre, 625 Park Ave.

Dancers kick off the shows with “Perceptions” featuring professional and student choreographers on stage Dec. 8-10 at 7:30 p.m.

On Dec. 12 at 7 p.m., instrumental music groups from both LBHS and Thurston Middle School will perform under the direction of Instrumental Music Director Jeremy Chung. That same evening, TMS and LBHS Jazz Director Roger Shew directs the LBHS Jazz Orchestra, who will premiere an original composition, “La Cha-Cha-Ra.” Laguna musician-composer and Thurston alumnus Dan Reckard wrote the composition for the ensemble.

The Thurston Junior Jazz Ensemble is also performing, featuring many young musicians performing solos for the first time.

The fourth Jazz Orchestra CD, “Wrong…but Awesome” will be available for purchase at the concert. All proceeds benefit the music department and allow students and staff to go on trips, work with specialized clinicians and guest artists plus record more CDs.

Admission is free.

The Dec. 15th Winter Choral Concert begins at 7:30 p.m. Choral Musical Director Roxanna Ward will conduct the concert, which features LBHS and Thurston singers and special guests, the LagunaTunes Community Chorus.

Donations of $5 and $10 for student and adult admission are welcome.

“I hope our families and community members take advantage of

these wonderful holiday performances,” said Supt. Sherine Smith. “The talent on display is phenomenal and the music selections are sure to be crowd-pleasers!”
