Laguna’s 12th and what appears to be final Orange Coast League season opens next week as practice formally begins on Aug. 21. Both the boys and girls teams will compete in Division 4 of five CIF divisions, with assignment based on school enrollment. D4 is for schools between 600 and 1,429 students. The girls squad under coach Steve Lalim, in his 10th season, hopes to add a sixth straight league title this season and a 15th straight trip to the section playoffs.

The boys under Scott Wittkop, in his eighth season, finished third last year in league but still qualified for their 18th consecutive trip to the Southern Section Division 4 meet. Important dates: Tuesday, Sept. 26, is the league cluster meet and the league finals are Monday, Oct. 30. Section finals are Saturday, Nov. 18, in Riverside.
