Fun Fall Events in the HIP District

Proprietors of shops in the mile-long stretch of South Coast Highway between Thalia Street and Bluebird Canyon, known as the HIP district (historic and interesting places) are offering new attractions this month.

Two shops in The Old Pottery Place, 1200 S. Coast Highway, are worth a look. Laguna Beach Books will host T. Jefferson Parker reading from his new book, “Full Measure,” at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct.11. The book club will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 15, to discuss the novel, “Zone One,” by Colson Whitehead and author Lan Cao will be at the store to read from her new book, “The Lotus and the Storm,” at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 16. And, Tootsies Shoes is having their semi-annual clearance sale on designer footwear.

European Optical celebrates 40 years of offering eyewear and optical services from their original location at 1276 S. Coast Highway.

For art lovers, Artist Eye Laguna Gallery, 1294 S. Coast Highway, will feature artist, Kara Lee, through Oct. 31. Coastal Eddy Gallery, 1417 S. Coast Highway, features an installation by Robin Lee Riddell that open Saturday, Oct. 11, with a 5-8 p.m. reception.

Also Saturday, stroll the streets of Laguna Beach with California horticulture expert, Ruben Flores. Garden Walks begin at 10 a.m. at Laguna Nursery, 1370 S. Coast Highway and a minimum $10 purchase serves as your ticket.
