FALL SPORTS UPDATE

CROSS COUNTRY – Girls 10th at STATE

Laguna ran another great race to finish 10th at the 36th State Cross Country meet held at Woodward Park in Fresno on Saturday, Nov. 25. This was Laguna’s 15th appearance in the meet, and participation is always one of the team’s goals each season. The top runner for Laguna was Sydney Sydney, who was 36th overall among the 195 runners in the D-4 race. Also competing for the Breakers were Yolo Javier, Hayden Joseph, Kiara Flores, Karina Pitz, Anoua Carrie and Emily Williams. For more information, visit the website at www.lbxc.org.

FOOTBALL (9-2)

Sixty-nine Orange County schools will be shuffled into new leagues next season, and it appears the Breakers will be placed with Orange, Aliso Niguel, Fountain Valley, Northwood and Dana Hills in league “E,” fifth out of 12 leagues. This will be for football only.

WINTER SPORTS UPDATE

BOYS BASKETBALL (6-2)

Laguna 83, University 60 – Nov. 22 at Dugger Gym

The Breakers rolled past the Trojans in a non-league contest played at Laguna. Dylan McEachern scored 30 points, and Jack Halvorson added 23, including six 3-point shots. Uni still leads the all-time series 29-25. Sam Burchi recorded 18 rebounds in the game.

Laguna 59, Laguna Hills 42 – Nov. 24 at Edison High School

The “Feast Week” showcase game at Edison was another Breaker win where they never trailed since making the first basket. McEachern scored 28 and Halvorson 17, in the win over the Hawks, who still hold a 25-22 series advantage. 

San Juan Hills 76, Laguna 69 (OT) Mon Nov. 27 at Portola High School

The Stallions (4-1) rallied in the final period to force overtime and pulled away from the Breakers for the win. Dylan McEachern scored 40 in the loss – ninth-best single-game performance in 90 basketball seasons at Laguna.

GIRLS BASKETBALL (2-1)

Kate Cheng scored 16, and Elaina Seybold added 13 to lead Laguna to a 58-11 win over Rosemead on Nov. 25 at Dugger Gym. Laguna is in the Orangewood Tournament next week. 

BOYS SOCCER (0-1-1)

Laguna tied Northwood 0-0 on Nov. 17 and lost to Los Amigos 2-1 on Tuesday Nov. 28 at the Lobos campus. Jack Hooper provided the Breaker’s score on a penalty kick late in the contest.

GIRLS SOCCER

Laguna dominated Sage Hill in the scrimmage held on Nov. 16 and opened their season this past Thursday, Nov. 30 at Beckman. Breakers are in the Best of the West tournament on Dec. 9.

GIRLS WATER POLO

The Second Annual Alumni Game was held on Wednesday, Nov. 22, at the Laguna Community Pool. Ethan Damato returned to inspire the veterans to an 18-5 win over the Laguna varsity, ranked #3 in Orange County.

Danielle Borelli ’18 scored the first goal off a pass from Yoshi Anderson ’12. Lauren Schneider ’23 provided the goal-keeping duties for the alumni, making it difficult for the varsity. Lauren Short, Lauren Schneider, Hannah Carver, Emma Lineback, Jesse Rose and CiCi Stewart each scored twice. Molly Renner, Ava Houlahan, Grace Houlahan, Cleo Washer, Lala McCarroll, Rachael Carver, Charlotte Riches, London Boyd and Nicole Struss were among the veteran players who played. Varsity scores were from Kara Carver, Ava Knepper, Claire Turner and Izza Sarkis.

The 2024 season opened this past Thursday with San Clemente, and the team travels to Santa Barbara for a match Saturday morning, Dec. 2 with San Marcos at Santa Barbara High School. 

The Breakers only home game remaining on the schedule will be on Dec. 14 at 4 p.m., hosting Huntington Beach. This will be the Senior Day celebration. Laguna’s remaining g schedule, including all league games, will be away or in neutral pool sites.
