SUMMER NOTES:

Football

It is less than four weeks to the much-anticipated opening of Laguna’s 89th varsity football season, and Coach John Shanahan (46-28 for eight seasons) returns with his most talented team expected to make another successful league and deep post-season run. Ryner Swanson (BYU Commit) will be out to set the school career receiving record. He already has 128 catches, 1,538 yards and 18 scores. Swanson is the most decorated Laguna player in over thirty years and is expected to be the opponents’ focus. Jackson Kollock returns at quarterback (262-173-3, 2,202 yards, 32 TDs ) and is also expected to continue his assault on the record book. Nick Rogers, who ran for 1,259 yards and 12 touchdowns, leads the backfield. A number of other players from last year could make significant contributions this season. The opening game is 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 17 at Chino High School.
