Lancaster, DeLaRosa Unstoppable
Breakers Run Over Roadrunners 55-19

Laguna snapped a two-game losing streak and regained their confidence with a rout of Saddleback last Friday, Oct. 11, at Santa Ana’s Segerstrom High School. Spoiling the Roadrunner homecoming, Laguna rushed for 551 yards and 585 total yards. The tally was the second most in both categories in school history despite a Southern Section CIF required running clock for the fourth quarter since the Breakers led by 35 points entering the final period. This rule has been in place since the 2011 season.
Breakers took the opening kickoff and marched 65 yards in four plays for the first score using barely a minute of clock time to take the lead. Laguna went on to score on all six possessions in the first half and both possessions in the third quarter. Laguna’s lone possession in the fourth period went nine plays but stalled due to two big penalties forcing their only punt of the game.
The Roadrunners came back after Laguna’s first score and executed a nine-play, 80-yard drive to knot the game at 7:28 remaining in the first period. Their remaining two possessions in the quarter went four plays and three plays as they failed to convert a fourth and 2 play on their second possession and kicked a punt on their third. Laguna stopped them on downs on their first possession of the second quarter but Saddleback added their second score on a nine-play, 69-yard drive after they were down 34-7.

The Roadrunners added their final score on a 13-play drive that carried over well into the fourth period.
After Laguna’s only possession of the quarter, the game ended on a Jake Smith 29-yard interception return to the Saddleback 16 yard line.
Nathan Lancaster, one of Laguna’s most gifted runners, continued to move up the season and career charts. If he just does his average this week, he will move into the second-best spot for career rushing and scoring, just trailing Drake Martinez. Lancaster had scoring runs of 1, 21, 44, 66, 45 as he tied the school record with five touchdowns in a game, a feat he accomplished on the first game this season with Bolsa Grande. Twenty of his 41 career touchdowns have been in plays of 40 or more yards. More remarkable is his three-year career average of 11.9 yards gained per attempt.
The other key part of the Laguna backfield is senior Andres DeLaRosa, who has rushed for 494 yards and eight touchdowns this season. He averages 9.9 yards per carry and has also caught nine passes for 111 yards.
If the opponents key on Lancaster – expect a big game from DeLaRosa.
UP NEXT: the 58th Homecoming game takes place this Friday, Oct. 18, at Guyer Field against longtime rival Estancia in the 25th meeting with the series tied at 12-12. Laguna is 21-36-1 in homecoming games with only three wins in the past 25 years. Breakers beat Calvary last season 56-13 and the other two were against Estancia – it should be four wins after this game.
