Junior forward Alexandra Lewis was named second team All-CIF last month, the only Laguna Beach High School basketball player, boys or girls, to earn that distinction in 2015.
With junior guard Jackie Cenan, the team’s leading scorer, on the bench with a knee injury for the first 16 games, Lewis became more of a force both inside and outside on offense and defense, leading the Breakers to a solid 8-8 pre-league mark against some tough competition.
The third-year varsity starter continued to carry the team after Cenan’s return, hitting 76 three-point field goals to shatter her single-season school record of 53, set in 2014. Lewis’ career total now stands at 161, which is also a record.
She averaged a double-double on the season, scoring 15.4 points a game to go with 10.3 rebounds, improving on last season’s totals of 8.6 and 6.6 respectively.
She also played exceptional defense, leading the team with 86 blocks and finishing second with 79 steals. The Breakers went on to finish tied for second in the Orange Coast League at 7-3 and earn a berth in CIF post-season play.
