Paul Anderson
Paul Norman Anderson, an unwaveringly devoted family man, painter, poet, early Laguna Beach lifeguard, businessman and 22-year member of the South Coast Water District board died Wednesday at Mission Hospital. He was 84.
Anderson was born May 4, 1927, in Los Angeles, but lived most of his life in Laguna Beach. He graduated from LBHS in 1945. He loved being at the beach and swimming in the ocean. He surfed, was a lifeguard, loved camping in the mountains and desert, and was a skilled fisherman. He loved the beauty of nature and captured it in his paintings of the ocean and scenes from his camping trips.
He attended the University of Southern California from 1949-1952 and graduated with a bachelor of science in commercial aviation. He also earned an associated arts degree from Santa Ana College, attended Pasadena Art Center School and earned other degrees from The American College in Bryn Mawr, Penn.
Anderson served in WWII in the Pacific Theater.
He was a member of the Kappa Alpha fraternity, president and director of the South Coast Water District board, and was appointed to the Orange County Board of Education in 1971.
He spent 10 years as an aluminum salesman at Alcoa, and nearly 40 years as a life insurance estate planner for Connecticut General and New England Financial. In 2001 he retired and devoted his time to taking care of his wife who has Parkinson’s disease.
Anderson is survived by his wife Beverly Jeanne Badham Anderson; sons Dale, Garrick, Norman, Kent and daughter Teri AndersonSchoepe; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
