Laguna Beach’s school board agreed earlier this month to seek funding under the state Education Department’s class size reduction program, as it has since the mid 1990s, effectively committing to 20-student classes in kindergarten through third-grade.

This year K-3 class size at El Morro Elementary and Top of the World Elementary ranges from 19 to 21 students. Small class size allows teachers to reach learners of all levels.

“It is one of many tools we use to make sure no student is invisible in the classroom,” said board President Betsy Jenkins. “Our district is so lucky to be able to keep this important, but expensive enrichment program.”
