Boys Soccer (5-3-1)

Daniel Richards is in his eighth season as the Laguna mentor and the 2018 Breakers should be very competitive for their final Orange Coast League race and post-season play. Godinez (4-3-2) is not the power team of the last few seasons, while Estancia (7-3-2) appears to be the current team to beat. Saddleback (7-3) and Costa Mesa (6-1) are also very competitive. First home league soccer match is Jan. 17 with Estancia.

Girls Soccer (2-8-1)

The Breaker record is deceiving on a number of counts with the defense of their league crown beginning this past week. All-CIF sophomore Reilyn Turner returned to the lineup on Dec. 27 and has the raised level of Breaker play where a title defense and a playoff run is not out of the question. Last week, the squad traveled out to the desert on Dec. 4 and defeated the top Division 4 squad, La Quinta, at the Blackhawks’ field. Turner scored all four goals in the 4-2 upset. The following day Laguna gave up an early goal, but held their own in a 1-0 loss to Division 2, seventh-ranked Corona del Mar (6-2-3). This past week, key Division 4 league matches were to take place at Godinez and Calvary Chapel and Breakers will open the home league season Tuesday, Jan. 16 with Estancia.
