Laguna Beach High School’s surf team faced Newport Harbor on their turf at 61st Street on Oct. 30. While the team didn’t win the contest, coaches Scott Finn and Alisa Cairns remain enthusiastic about the team effort.

Marlee Grosher led the way with a longboard win and second in shortboard.  Coco Putnam took third in shortboard and Cayla Henderson took fourth in longboard.

Several of the boys had strong heats with Cameron DePyffer pulling off second place in both the shortboard and longboard ripping apart both the lefts and rights. Other top finishers for Laguna in shortboard were Willy Hogan who was just edged out for the win, and Michael Chapman also with an impressive heat, taking second place. Meanwhile his twin brother, Shane Chapman finished in third. Nathan Kravitz also secured a third place in shortboard while Jack Dickerson took a third in bodyboard. Once again there was good surfing done by freshman Connor Brashier who took a fourth in shortboard, while Ryan Meisberger took fourth in longboard.

The team surfs next against San Clemente Nov. 12.
