Surf Team Rips Against Dana, Newport

The Laguna Beach High School surf team battled hard Thursday, Oct. 22 against Dana Hills with impressive winning performances by Kayla Coscino in girls shortboard and Noah North and Jeremy Shutts in boys shortboard.

Zach Levine helped get things started in the 3-4 foot waves at Salt Creek, taking a solid second in boys shortboard. There were also good performances by Jake Levine getting a third and Trey Lockhart and Dante Madrigal both placing fourth.

Lola Fisher and Megan Mathews finished with a third and a fourth in girls longboard.

Jameson Roller finished with a third in longboard and Ryan Meisberger finished in fourth. In boys bodyboard Cole Fink finished fourth.

Earlier on Tuesday, Oct. 20, waves and cheerleaders bearing donuts showed up at Thalia Street and the LBHS surf team ended up with a 103 to 65 score against Newport Harbor.

In the first boys shortboard heat, Travis Booth took the win and Zach Levine and Jett North finished second and third. The remaining boys shortboard team continued to charge with Laguna kids Noah North, Jake Levine and Liam McCue taking wins. Trey Lockhart and Jeremy Shutts ripped their way to second place finishes and Dante Madrigal came in third. Nate Madigan and Dylan Davis finished in fourth.

The girls shortboard and longboard team again dominated the competition. In the shortboard, Laguna girls made a clean sweep by Kayla Coscino Claire Kelly and Destiny Thompson. Lola Fisher took another win in longboard, and Kayla Cocino did double duty finishing in second. Rachel Kenney was fourth.

Cole Fink who finished in second in bodyboard and Spencer Davis took a third.

Ryan Meisberger had a third in boys longboard and Liam Bryant a forth. Jameson Roller surfed well, but was hindered by an interference call.
