ZeroTrash.org, the community clean-up movement, hosts its 62nd consecutive First Saturday clean-up on Jan. 5, from 10 a.m. to noon.

In Laguna, volunteers report in at any of five locations to pick up street and beach trash and receive merchandise discounts for their community service.

All collected materials are put in bins provided by partner Waste Management and their contents weighed and tracked. Since its founding in 2007, ZeroTrash has removed over 100,000 pounds of trash and recyclables from the streets and beaches of Laguna, Newport and Dana Point.

Locations: Hobie Sport downtown cleans main beach; LBHS cleans around the high school; Thalia Surf Shop cleans the Thalia neighborhood; El Ranchito cleans streets and bars of Oak, Cress, Mountain, Caliope and Bluebird streets; United Studios of Self Defense cleans Coast Highway area.

Just in time for the plastic bag ban that took affect Jan. 1, pick up a free ZeroTrash tote at the El Ranchito location.
