A new Latino literacy program for families begins Wednesday, Feb. 27 at the Boys and Girls Club of Laguna Beach. The 12-week program is each Wednesday for an hour beginning at 5 p.m.

The district’s community liaison, Javier Diaz, is coordinating the program, which is designed to help develop family reading routines and vocabulary development for Latino parents and their children.

“Literacy is a crucial skill necessary for all students to succeed academically,” Diaz said. “This program will provide bilingual techniques parents can use at home to develop their children’s literacy skills and enhance academic achievement.”
