Keeping children safe and understanding trends relating to teens and alcohol is the focus of a school district parent education presentation, Parenting Alcohol Free Youth, on Tuesday, March 1, at 6 p.m. in the Laguna Beach High School library.

“It is doubtful that schools alone can play a meaningful role in reducing alcohol and other drug use without parental and community support and involvement,” said Irene White, the district’s director of special education and student services.

The presentation is an outgrowth of a district steering committee’s efforts. Speakers from Mothers Against Drunk Driving and the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence will make presentations about marketing tactics of the liquor industry, youth-oriented products, techniques to talk to teens about alcohol and the role adults play in teen drinking.
