Village Laguna will honor the Rev. Colin Henderson and former council member Verna Rollinger at its Villagers of the Year celebration on Saturday, Oct. 5 from 4 to 7 p.m. in the garden of Bill and Lynda Sharp.
Henderson, a resident since ’85, previously served as an Anglican priest in England. Here, he established what has become the Friendship Shelter, a temporary shelter with services for homeless people that has benefited 6,000 people.
Rollinger, the town’s elected city clerk for more than 30 years, created a climate of accessibility and openness during her tenure. She was a founding member of the Friendship Shelter and a discussion group about schools. On the City Council, she played a role in representing neighborhood-compatible development and advocating for park protection, a marine reserve, water quality standards and preservation of significant trees.
Tickets of $85 per person may be purchased at www.villagelaguna.org.
