Volleyball Players Return to the Sand

With the pre-Christmas weekend weather forecast for sun and 65 degrees, locals know it’s time to break out the sunscreen and head to Main Beach to watch or participate in a local tradition: the free beach volleyball tournament and potluck on Saturday, Dec. 21.

Check in for experienced players only begins at 9 a.m., says organizer Kirk Morgan. Enter individually and teams will be weighted and drawn by a committee of elves, he says.

After pool play, in the elimination round, teams this year for the first time are allowed to draft one player from an eliminated team, Morgan says. Each original team member must continue to play and rotate in.

Families or businesses will be allowed to sign up together as a team. Participants should bring a potluck dish or beverage for eight.

Really cheesy prizes and very substantial bragging rights will be awarded, Morgan promises, along with an after party at the White House.
