Makenna Pitz was honored with a certificate of recognition by the Rotary Club as the Laguna Beach High School student of the month for March in the performing arts department.

She will also receive a scholarship at the Honors Convocation to be held in June.

Makenna performed in the high school’s spring musical. She plans to attend college in the fall and major in sociology or communications.

 

 

Class Act Returns to Laguna

Pacific Symphony cellist Ian McKinnell as well as other symphony musicians will perform at a free 7 p.m. concert open to the public Tuesday, April 15, at Saint Catherine of Siena Parish School.

The school hosts its first Class Act Family Night Concert, which will highlight the musical works by George Gershwin and other composers whose music features jazz elements.

Saint Catherine, 30516 S. Coast Highway, recently was invited to join the Class Act family, in which only 30 schools are handpicked to receive Pacific Symphony musicians who visit the schools and teach throughout a school year.

Rookie Named Performer of the Week

Laguna Beach native Taylor Nederlander was named the Atlantic 10 Women’s Tennis Rookie Performer of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday.

Nederlander is a freshman at George Washington University in Newport News, Va.
