On Dec. 30, Laguna Beach’s 11-year-old Sydney Van Alphen beat 14-year-old Kristen Venter of San Diego in the quarter-finals of the Carmel Valley Christmas Junior Open Tournament in San Diego, with a score of 6/1 – 6/1.
Sydney want on to play against 13-year-old Danielle Garido, the number one seed in the girls 14s singles, in the semi-finals on Dec. 31, but lost 4/6 – 2/6.
