During a breakfast to welcome returning staff to the new school year, Top of the World staff member, Margaret Warder, was presented the fifth annual Spirit Award, recognizing an employee who exemplifies extraordinary service.

“I have known Margaret Warder for many years and find her to be incredibly hard working and involved as a parent, a community volunteer, and of course, as an LBUSD employee,” School board President Betsy Jenkins said. “She is a most deserving recipient of the Spirit of LBUSD Award.”

Warder joined the team at Top of the World Elementary in  2003 as a reading intervention specialist. She also works as a crossing guard and is in her fourth term as president of the district’s California State Employees Association, its non-credentialed workers.

“It is extremely rewarding to work with our students and watch the growth that they make in reading and developing that passion to read and comprehend,” she said.

Warder is a registered nurse and her daughter, Sabrina Johnson, is a recent LBHS graduate enrolled at the Laguna College of Art and Design.
