Workshops Offer a Guide to Creativity

Registration is now open for a studio visit with painter Kathy Jones and workshops with artists Lydia Delgado and Reem Khalil, organized by Laguna Outreach for Community Arts.

The Art Club event where Jones will discuss her approach and process is on Thursday, Jan. 15, 4-6p.m., at 3251 Laguna Canyon Road. Those in attendance will be invited to join a group painting project. Everyone will receive a cutting of the finished art to take home. Cost is $20 in advance, and free to LOCA Art Club members.

Also on Thursday, Delgado will lead a plant-themed, two-hour watercolor workshop beginning at 9:30 a.m. at Laguna Nursery, 1370 S. Coast Highway. The cost is $30.

On Saturday, Jan. 17, clothing artist Reem Khalil will teach silk painting at Pacific Marine Mammal Center beginning at 9 a.m. A tour and viewing of live sea lions is included. Cost is $15 for kids ages 6-up, and $20 for adults.

Accessories Gain the Spotlight

Artists of any age from anywhere in Orange County are invited to bring their adornment art work to Gallery Q at the Laguna Beach Susi Q Center Monday, Jan. 12, from 3 to 5 or Thursday, Jan. 15, from 10 am to noon.

The gallery curator is compiling “The Art of Adornment” exhibit, set to open on Tuesday, Jan. 20. Works ranging from jewelry, silk or knitted scarves, quilts, decorated clothing, wall hangings, quilts, masks, yard and house art are welcome.

Adornment can also be exhibited as a photo. If you’re unsure about the parameters, contact Judy Baker, the arts co-director at the center.
