Costa Mesa’s Tyler Corkhill slammed a three-run home run in the third inning to lead the Mustangs to a 6-3 upset of the Breakers last Friday, May 4, at the Mustang’s diamond. The loss was Laguna pitcher Blake Burzell’s first of the season and snapped Laguna’s 29 game league win streak and Burzell’s own win streak at 15.
Breakers had 11 hits but could not generate the runs.
Breakers, who have already clinched the league title, close out the regular season this past week with Estancia for a pair of contests and lead the second place Eagles by three games entering the week.
Southern Section CIF playoffs will be announced Monday, May 14. Breakers opening game should be Thursday, May 17, at home.
