Is Alcohol Enforcement a Profit Center?

Editor,

After reading your article by Cassandra Reinhart (“Police Cork an Art Walk Tradition,” Nov. 16) my first thought was doesn’t the PD have better things to do with their time?

The Art Walk has been going on for 15 years and the two to four hours per month they spend trying to raise art awareness plus sales that include a free glass of wine. Why is the PD decided to take action after 15 years? The Alcohol Beverage Control Board about 99.9% of the time only deals with establishments that have an ABC license. Inviting them to go along was definitely a way of trying to take the blame off of LBPD. Usually 85% of all citations or fines money gets return to the city general fund via the county auditors office. Is this strictly a way of raising city revenue via fines or justifying more officers so they can write more citations for stupid stuff?

Common sense should be used with all when enforcing laws including antiquated violations. I also notice the PD is cruising the downtown area (two blocks) and the Main Beach  boardwalk with two full uniform officers in a golf cart. Duh …maybe they should have a golf bag, they can load them with rifles and machine guns instead of golf clubs.

Thank you for listening.

  1. Larry awesome perspective! Time to gather the citizens of Laguna beach, art lovers and those who seek transparency and accountability concerning our elected officials and tax-funded police department who unfortunately have worked against common decency and support of the Artist Village.

When is the next city council meeting when we can all show up to support the arts? When will the Chief of Police stand up and explain her reasoning for sudden enforcement of ABC rules and the $15,000 grant which DID NOT complete the intention of the monies?
