Weekend Painted with Art Opportunity

On Saturday, June 4, 17 Laguna Canyon Artists hold a spring art sale and open their studios from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The sale allows the general public to have access to the first pick of work without admission or parking fees. A wide range of art styles are available including plein-air landscape, classically rendered commission portraiture, contemporary abstract painting, printmaking, giclee reproductions, fine art tiles, glass jewelry, assemblage, and cast sculpture, with prices ranging from $20 to $2,000.

Artists and their work as well as a map to the Laguna Canyon Complex may be previewed on the web at LagunaCanyonArtists.com.

Competition Banner Waves for Local Artists

Laguna Beach’s council chamber banner competition is underway and resident artists are encouraged to submit their prospective designs to the cultural arts department by July 8.

Winning banners will be prominently displayed in Council Chambers and an honorarium of $1,000 paid for all completed banners selected. Once a design is selected, the artist will be provided with a canvas banner to be painted and completed with the artists’ signature.

Calling Artists for Bench Competition

Laguna Beach is also accepting prospective designs for an artist-designed Coast Highway bus bench at Mountain Street.

The bench is a stop for Orange County and city buses as well as trolleys during summer and First Thursday’s Art Walk.

Open to artists who live in Southern California counties, competitors must submit applications by 5 p.m. Monday, July 18, which will be reviewed by the Arts Commission and selected by the City Council.

Finalists will enter into a design contract to develop a proposal for the design and be awarded $300.

Details for both competitions can be found at lagunabeachcity.net or by calling Siân Poeschl at (949) 497-0722.
