Beatriz Lopez Mead, known to her friends affectionately as Bianca, passed away peacefully after an 18-month struggle with cancer. Her loving spirit, sharp sense of humor and contagious laughter will remain with all that knew her.

Mead spent the better part of her life working in the arts. She graduated from the California College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland in 1978. After 10 years of an active art career in San Francisco working with community based art projects, Mead moved to Laguna Beach with her three sons, where she dedicated 25 years to working in the film industry. Her career in the arts included: the bicultural liaison for the California Arts Council, curator for the Mexican Museum in San Francisco as well as serving as a board member of the Laguna Art Museum.

Mead is survived by her three sons, Woody Wilcox, Marcel Mead and Jesse Bonty, in addition to a large family of friends.

A memorial gathering to celebrate Mead’s life will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, June 1, at the Laguna Rivera Beach Resort patio overlooking the ocean and will include a ceremonial scattering of her ashes in the sea by her son Marcel accompanied by friends on surfboards.

Parking at the hotel, 825 S. Coast Highway, is limited to guests.
