Church Women Hold Moms Up for Praise

A tea to benefit Orange County’s Human Options shelter for women and their families who have suffered abusive relationships is set for Saturday, May 11, by the women’s group at Laguna Beach United Methodist Church.

Laguna Beach resident and author Judy Pettigrew, a public speaker and frequent radio and television talk show guest, will share humorous anecdotes about her Mom and other moms she has known during the tea. Guests will received an autographed copy of her book, “If I Should Die Before I Wake.”

The tea will be held in the church’s Healton Hall, 21632 Wesley Dr., beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 11.  RSVP to 949-495-4315 or [email protected] by Wednesday, May 8. Tickets are $10 each.  Checks should be made out to UMW LBUMC.

 

 

Boy Scout Men Honored

 

The Orange County Council, Boy Scouts of America recognized eight Orange County men at the annual Men of Character dinner last month at the Hyatt Regency Irvine.

Included among the honorees were Laguna residents Steve Samuelian and Dr. John Hovanesian. They were acknowledged for great lifetime contributions to their community and the support of future men of character.

Banging the Drum for Boys and Girls Club Gala

The Boys and Girls Club of Laguna Beach celebrates their 61st year serving youth in the community during the 13th Annual Art of Giving Gala-Cirque du Xīnzàng on Saturday, May 11 at 5:30 p.m. held at the Montage Laguna Beach, 30801 S. Coast Hwy.

The evening starts on the Montage lawn with fusion hor’ dourves and signature cocktails. Guests will enjoy a silent auction while being entertained by world-renowned Cirque performers. A Red Dragon and drum procession will lead up to an Asian inspired dinner. A live auction and heart-tugging presentations round out the evening.

The event’s success impacts the club’s programming for over 60 percent of Laguna elementary school students, as well as over 200 young people living in Aliso Viejo.

Spring Cleaning With Benefits

There is one more opportunity to donate quality apparel and accessories for women, men, teens and children before the Boutique Benefit Event, May 17.  The collection drive is scheduled for Saturday, May 11 at the Neighborhood Congregational Church, 340 St. Ann’s Dr. from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. All donations to the Boutique Benefit are tax-deductible.
