Laguna surprised the second-seed Hemet Bulldogs this past Tuesday, Feb. 24, with a 2-0 home victory at Guyer Field in the Southern Section CIF D-5 second round. Vassar bound Audrey Pillsbury recorded the first score 15 minutes into the second half off a great run and pass by Renee Thomas. In extra time after the 40-minute second half had expired, Thomas scored the insurance goal from an Alden Kramer pass. Kylie George recorded her 11^th shutout as Laguna advanced to the quarterfinals for only the second time in the sport’s 34 seasons at Laguna.

In the opening round played on Feb. 19 at Segerstrom, Breakers stunned the host Jaguars 3-0 as Audrey Pillsbury scored the first goal off a pass from Chiara Noppenberger and Renee Thomas added the second with an assist from Emily Addis. In the second half, Thomas scored again with an assist from Regan Carahar.

The quarterfinal match was played this past Thursday at Laguna. If the Breakers get past seventh-ranked Sierra Canyon of Chatsworth, Laguna would play on Tuesday, March 3.

Boys Soccer (10-7-4)

Bruce Knill scored off an assist by James Langton with just 10 minutes remaining to lift the Breakers to a 1-0 victory over host La Mirada Friday, Feb. 20. Dante Amodeo earned the shutout with seven saves advancing the Breakers to a second round game this past Wednesday at Guyer Field hosting top seed William S. Hart High School from Newhall.
