Legion Marks Veterans Day With Pageantry
The community is welcome to join the American Legion at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11, in honoring veterans for their service at Legion Hall, 384 Legion St.
Mayor Pro Tem Bob Whalen will join keynote speaker Frank Daniel, commander of VFW Post 5868. A police color guard will add a touch of pageantry.
Club Honors Military Families
The public is invited to the unveiling of a new monument that pays tribute to the service of military families on Wednesday, Nov. 12, at the Boys and Girls Club.
The 2 p.m. dedication ceremony takes place at 1085 Laguna Canyon Road and honors Dorene and Lee Butler, club supporters intimately familiar with military service.
Retired Gen. George Lee Butler served as commander of the U.S. Strategic Command and his wife, Dorene Butler, served eight years as a club board member.
“They personally understand the disruption that each national crisis has on military families and the importance of positive, supportive networks for youth who are dealing with one or more deployed parents,” said Pam Estes, the club’s executive director.
