Two City Boards Seeking Additional Members

The City Council is accepting applications to fill an unexpired term on the Planning Commission, which will be vacated by City Council member elect Robert Whalen.

The term extends to June 30.

The council is also accepting applications from residents for an upcoming vacancy on the Board of Adjustment/Design Review Board.

Applicants for both posts will be interviewed and appointments made by the City Council at their regular meeting Tuesday, Dec. 4 at 6 p.m. in the City Council Chambers, 505 Forest Ave.

Local residents who are interested in serving on the planning commission are required to submit an application by 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, available in the City Clerk’s office or on the city’s web site at lagunabeachcity.net. Planning commissioners serve a two-year term and are compensated $230 per month. Meetings are held on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month at 6:30 p.m.

Applications for Design Review are due by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 27. Members are currently compensated in the amount of $230 per month and meet two Thursdays a month at 6 p.m. for the purpose of considering requests for variances from the zoning code and evaluating design review applications and coastal development permits. Experience in the building trades, architecture, historic preservation, landscaping, planning and/or real estate is desirable.
