Fundraiser for Presidential Hopeful

Laguna Beach’s Fred Karger, unsuccessful in gaining entry to the New Hampshire debate this week between candidates vying to become the GOP presidential nominee, show perseverance.

The first openly gay candidate to seek the Republican presidential nomination hosts his first local fundraiser Saturday, June 18.

Karger’s guest will be treated to Hollywood star power with an appearance by television actor and model Rib Hillis promised at the $100 per person, 6-8 p.m. cocktails and hors d’oeuvres event at 155 McAulay Place.

Seaside Garden Benefit Set

Laguna Nursery hosts an evening of food, wine, Latin music and dancing this Saturday, June 18, at Laguna Beach’s Montage resort, a benefit for Japanese earthquake and tsunami victims.

Pre-sale tickets of $85 per person are available by calling Laguna Nursery at 949-494-5200. $100 at the door.

The evening starts with a wine-walk at 4 p.m. strolling the hotel’s gardens with chardonnay and commentary by the nursery’s owner, Ruben Flores.

Speaker Describes ‘Big Picture’ Economics

Energy and economic analyst Nicole Foss will speak Saturday, June 18, at 6 p.m., at the Neighborhood Congregational Church, 340 Saint Ann’s Dr.

 

Host Transition Laguna is asking for a $10 admission fee.

 

Foss specializes in macro economics and is said to be an expert on Ponzi schemes. She spoke at an earlier Transition conference in Totnes, United Kingdom.

Services Include Musical Faith Story

The musical “Esther-Ordinary Faith” will be presented by Laguna Presbyterian Church’s children’s choir and music groups Sunday, June 19, at 8:30 and 10 a.m. worship services.

The play tells the story of Israel’s Queen Esther and how she followed God’s will and overcame impossible odds to save her people.

 

 

Support Group Fathers Panel Discussion

The Orange County Asperger’s Support Group will host a panel discussion, “I’m a Proud Father of an Aspie on Monday, June 20, at 7 p.m. at Dierenfield Hall in St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Newport Beach.

The meeting is free to individuals and families dealing with Asperger’s, high-functioning autism (HFA) or PDD-NOS, but reservations are required.  In recognition of Father’s Day, bring your dad,  husband, or grandfather to the discussion where a panel of dads who are members of the OCASG, accompanied by therapist Michael J. Uram will talk over the ups and downs of raising a child with Asperger’s.
