Laguna Beach glass blowing artist Gavin Heath, front, straddles “Tidepool Paddleboard,” the bench he created with local metal sculptor Larry Gill, at the dedication last Saturday, March 9 by Laguna Beach Mayor Kelly Boyd in Heisler Park.

Beverly Kaye donated the funds for the bench, which bears a plaque remembering her parents who enjoyed the park in their final days. About 40 people gathered for the event, including Council Member Steve Dicterow.

The bench features stainless steel and concrete with cast glass inlays that evoke tidepools.

Gill and Heath, both Sawdust Art Festival exhibitors, teamed up before to create a glass and metal sculpture memorial for the Festival and for a bench installed last year on Ocean Avenue.

The duo also joined forces to collaborate in the still undecided competition for two public art projects, a sculpture and a mural, planned for the new lifeguard headquarters.
