Methodists Prepare for Christmas

Children of United Methodist Church will perform the Pageant of Las Posadas, representing “The Children Shine a Light,” during worship services Sunday, Dec. 13, 21632 Wesley Dr.

The following week, Sunday, Dec. 20, Pastor Mandy Flemming will speak on “The Bearer of Light: Mary.”

Advent culminates on Christmas Eve, with “The Light Shines in the Darkness” during two services. At 7:30 p.m., a service of carols and candles will be held and at 11 p.m., there will be a service of communion and candles.

“A Thrill of Hope,” an Advent educational program, will be provided for four weeks starting on Sunday, Nov. 29. Meg Estrada, diaconal minister at the church, will lead the DVD-based study in the Upper Conference Room. The class will feature the artwork of John August Swanson and commentary by several Biblical scholars.

Festival of Lights Begins

The free annual Hanukkah celebration begins at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 6 at Main Beach.

Organizers plan dancing, street performers, crafts, face painting, dreidle cookie decorating, latkes and dreidles alongside the menorah lighting.

At 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 9, Chabad returns to Main Beach for a Hanukkah storytime, with a sing along, crafts, latkes and menorah lightin for families with children 7 and under. In the case of inclement weather, the event will relocate to Chabad, 30804 S. Coast Hwy.
