Over the next four months, the Laguna Beach Film Society will present Sea Tales: The Truth of the Ocean in Film, documentaries for those who cherish the sea.
The films start Friday, Jan. 8 and will running every second Friday of the month through April 9 at 7 p.m. at the Forum Theater on the Festival of the Arts grounds.
Jan. 8’s film is “End of the Line,” are the ocean’s fish being depleted for the love of sushi? The first major feature documentary film revealing the impact of over fishing on our oceans, had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in the world cinema documentary competition.
Feb. 12, “Sea of Darkness,” Michael Oblowitz’s dark tale of paradise and surfing in Indonesia;
March 12, Greg MacGillveray’s award-winning “Dolphins,” about their lives and what they can teach us about the ocean;
And April 9, “Kansei Project,” about the island of plastic trash floating 1000 miles north of Hawaii and the efforts to clean it up.
Ticket prices are $15 at the door. Make your money go further by joining the Laguna Beach Film Society, gaining entry to the sea life documentaries and additional first-run films shown at 7 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month at the South Coast Cinema. The Thursday films are preceded by a wine and hors d’oeuvres reception at 6 p.m. at the Wells Fargo Bank Community Room. Memberships are $150 for singles or $225 for partners.
