A fire of undetermined origin engulfed a storage shed at the rear of a home at 671 Bayview Place in Laguna Beach’s Temple Hills area Tuesday, Oct. 15, fire officials said.

Laguna’s fire department, supplemented by Orange County Fire Authority units, quickly knocked down the blaze, said a statement from the fire department’s Tom Christopher.

Smoke from the 2:30 p.m. blaze was visible from downtown, according to a city employee, and traffic along Temple Hills Drive was congested due to the crush of fire and police vehicles and closure of Bayview, said a motorist en route to Top of the World.

Because of an initial concern that muriatic pool acid and possibly an unknown pesticide was stored within the shed, firefighters requested a hazardous material unit respond, though ultimately no pesticide was found, said Christopher.

The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time, he said.
