Laguna graduates Makenzie and Aria Fischer were named to the 13-player USA Water Polo Women’s National Team roster for the upcoming FINA World Championships starting this Sunday, July 16, in Budapest. The U.S. team opens against South Africa. The game’s broadcast will be delayed on the new Olympic Channel.
Also joining the squad will be the Laguna Beach High School head water polo coach, Ethan Damato, who will be one of two assistants to head coach Adam Krikorian.
Damato will be missing the annual California State HS Water Polo Championships July 14-16.
The high school girls are the top seed of 45 teams while the boys are seeded 15th out of 48 squads.
The Laguna girls teams opens against Long Beach Poly at 1 p.m. Friday, July 14, at El Toro High School. The boys open against Oaks Christian at 4 p.m. at Newport Harbor.
