Flyovers Resume Over Laguna

Editor,

The airliners flying over our town have come back after a reprieve of a few weeks. All the efforts of the City Council, and Toni Iseman in particular, have borne fruit for only the shortest time.

Now airplanes from John Wayne Airport again cross over our town dumping their exhaust with seven deadly carcinogens plus lead on us to breathe.  Again my fingers are black pushing them over our outdoor glass tables, which stayed clean before for too short a time!

  1. I support the efforts of Toni Iseman, the City Council, and Peter Weisbrod in combatting the repeated efforts of the airlines to shorten their flight routes by flying directly over the City of Laguna Beach instead of by a longer more southerly route. They are doing this to save a few dollars on fuel costs and a few minutes on flight duration. They achieve these “savings” by subjecting the 28,000 residents of Laguna Beach to the air pollution and associated health hazards described by Mr. Weisbrod, as well as the noise pollution created by the low flying aircraft over the properties of Laguna residents. Airlines are private, profit-making companies. They HAVE NO RIGHT TO ENHANCE THEIR PROFITS at the cost of Laguna citizens’ health and PEACEFUL ENJOYMENT OF THEIR HOMES. I urge the City Council to take comprehensive and effective legal action to stop these atrocious assaults on the health and peaceful lives of Laguna citizens.
