Since its establishment in 1974 by master optician Udo Stoeckmann, European Optical, at 1276 S. Coast Highway, has served generations of Lagunans and over its 38 years helped support the charitable efforts of many local groups.
Now, daughter Astrid Chitamun, the company’s chief executive, wants to involve the entire community in a year-long initiative, “See it Forward,” which began last December. Each month a local resident will be selected to receive a complete eye exam by a local optometrist and a new pair of prescription glasses from European Optical. “Vision is one of the greatest gifts we are given so we want to help give that back to someone who is less fortunate in Laguna Beach,” said Chitamun.
The eyewear shop is seeking nominations of potential candidates on forms available at European Optical or submitted to [email protected]. Nomination letters should include a story of 200 words or less explaining why a nominee should be selected. Nomination forms can be submitted by local residents and will be considered through December.
