The Laguna Relief and Resource Center was joined by local service organizations, churches and individual volunteers to make the 10th annual Homeless Christmas Breakfast an example of coming together to help those in need during the Christmas season.

Not only were the community’s homeless served a hot breakfast at the Neighborhood Congregational Church on Dec. 18, but they were also provided with hygiene kits, sleeping bags, backpacks, hats, scarves and socks.

While many residents contributed financially to help with the event, others volunteered their time.

Members of Laguna Beach Boy Scout troops 35 and 38 assisted in the setup and cleanup, served as waiters and were encouraged to interact with the guests. Laguna Presbyterian church members Erika Waidley and Brian Back served as kitchen staff, and Rick Shoemaker coordinated event servers.

Donna Valenti, executive director of the Laguna Relief and Resource Center, served as mistress of ceremonies and also played the piano accompanied by songstress Suzy Campbell. Girl Scout troop 2136 also sang Christmas carols, while troops 753 and 575 and Ann Richardson distributed hygiene kits and gifts.
