Marsha Bianchi carried the Laguna Beach Independent on a five-day backpacking trip on the Rae Lakes Loop Trail, a portion of the John Muir Trail, into the back country of spectacular Kings Canyon National Park. She took this image at the highest point, 11,978-foot Glen Pass, during last year’s Labor Day weekend. Her ascent started at 5,035 feet.
