Fall Sports Underway
Practice continues with the first contest set for Aug. 22 against Green Street Academy, a charter school in Baltimore. The game marks only the second time Laguna has played a non-California school in football, with the last time a 26-6 win against Bishop Gorman of Nevada in 1965.
The game will be played at the St Mary’s Ryken High School field in Leonardtown, Md., about 80 miles south of Baltimore, with a 6:30 p.m. scheduled kickoff time.
Season scrimmage is at Portola High School in Irvine on Aug. 16 with a 7 p.m. start.

Summer winds down this week and LBHS girls’ volleyball concludes with the Queens Court Tournament over the weekend at the American Sports Center in Anaheim.
Laguna will be competing in the 16-team elite division facing James Logan from Alameda County at 8 a.m. on Saturday, followed by Aliso Niguel and Beckman. The other 12 teams include Mater Dei, St Josephs/Lakewood, Tesoro, Ontario Christian, San Juan Hills, San Clemente, Hart, JSerra, Foothill, Mira Costa, Corona del Mar and Santiago/Corona.
The 2019 Laguna Beach girls varsity volleyball roster: Seniors Hallie Carballo, Kendall Fraser, Cambria Hall, Piper Naess, Olivia Nitoglia, and Soren Patchell; juniors Sophie Black, Luisa LoFranco, Mikayla Smith, Jacquelyn Strawn, and Ella Tyus; and sophomores Natalia Hagopian and Sophie Reavis.
Head Coach Shawn Patchell is in her seventh season overall at Laguna (119 wins, 66 losses). Assistant is Lance Stewart, Junior Varsity Coach is Pono Kaaa, and Frosh/Sophomore Coach is Chanel Stewart.
