As many of you know, I live in the Village and for the last few years have rented my home to long-term tenants during the height of summer. Most of my time then has been spent in Bend, Ore., where my sister and family live, to escape the hustle-bustle, honking and noisy tourist town that Laguna becomes while the art festivals are in full swing.

While in Bend a couple of summers ago, I was struck by several bumper stickers that I saw on local vehicles: “BE NICE, you’re in BEND!” What impacted me was the communication from residents that I, an outsider or “tourist,” am welcome in Bend, but that I should be respectful of the special community that the “locals” have created with their passion, resources, time and money!

I ask you to help me with a similar summer campaign in Laguna. Let’s communicate to our summer visitors that we welcome them, but request that they respect our idyllic Laguna while they are here. I don’t know if this will make a difference, but why not try together? If you prefer not to use the stickers, I ask that you pass them on to someone who will.

To contact me, or to receive stickers, please write me at: [email protected]. I’ll be checking my emails often. Thank you in advance for your support. Enjoy summer, wherever you may be!

  1. Terri,

Thank you for the positive vibes!!!

Yes, let’s all play nice, be courteous, watch for the pedestrians running across PCH, flashing crosswalk or not. We are so lucky to share this paradise with others….Bend ain’t too bad either!

Now can we get the city to have Driving While Nice (DWN) checkpoints in the canyon and PCH to spread the good cheer???? Some of those AZ and NV cars need to SLOW down and stop making those illegal left turns off PCH!!!
