Letter: Be wise about plastic use

Dear readers, I am a 10-year-old who lives in Laguna Beach, just like you. I have noticed a problem not just here but almost everywhere: We use too much plastic! Did you know well over one trillion plastic bags and over thirty-four million plastic bottles end up in the ocean each year? That is a lot of plastic.

To help, we can use reusable water bottles and cloth bags. You can bring them anywhere, and they last a long time. I know we are only a small town, and this is a big world, but think about the poor little turtles that mistake plastic bags for jellyfish. Also, all the trash contributes to global warming, and if this continues, one day, we will be living like Wall-E. We are only a small drop in a huge bucket, but if we all work together one day, I hope it will overflow. So, please be wise about the plastic you use and reuse the best you can.

Caroline Barber, Laguna Beach
