Letter: Tommy Bahama and More to Follow

Tommy Bahama had their last night on Tuesday. It seems to be happening more frequently lately. I might be a little biased on this subject, but I’m going to comment on it anyway.

There are a lot of restaurants in Laguna Beach. There is no question about it. Do we have them here because of tourists? Are some of the tourists here because of the restaurants? Absolutely. Regardless of how you feel about that, Laguna Beach is lucky to have so many choices all within 10 minutes of each other. We have so many options, so much diversity and an amazingly high level of quality in this city.

We all got into this business without guns pointed to our heads. We’re grown-ups (for the most part) and therefore we don’t get to complain about much. Having said that, if the locals of Laguna Beach love having this benefit of the choices that are here, the local spots need to be supported or they will continue to go away.

If you love a particular place, support it. If you haven’t been to a place you’ve heard great things about, explore. When you’ve had a positive experience in one of our local spots, tell everyone you know about it.

A difference of 10 diners a night at many of our smaller restaurants could be the difference between staying open and serving you or possibly looking at another empty building.

It really is that simple.

  1. you people don’t get it.. With the closing of Hotel Laguna it seems everything is different,..So many art galleries closed ,so many mom and pop stores closed on south coast highway..Are you trying to kill Laguna and make it just another beach town?
